The Nautical Network difference

One network, working for you.

Most boat buyers finance the hard way: calling banks one at a time, re-explaining the boat, and hoping the rate is fair. We built our marine financing program to flip that. You run your numbers, share your details once, and our lender network competes for your boat loan while a real specialist keeps the deal moving.

A nationwide lender network

One application, not ten. We take your deal to marine lenders across the country and they compete for your loan, so you compare real offers instead of calling banks one at a time.

Guided by a real specialist

A dedicated boat loan relationship manager walks you from pre-qualification to closing, and answers the phone when you call. No ticket queues, no phone tag.

No credit impact to pre-qualify

Pre-qualification is a soft inquiry that leaves your score untouched. A hard pull happens only at the full application, with your permission.

Your information stays protected

Your details are used to arrange your financing, nothing else. Never sold, and never shared beyond the lenders working your deal.

Good to know

Financing questions, answered

What credit score do I need for a boat loan?

Most marine lenders look for a score of 680 or better, and the sharpest rates go to borrowers above 740. Below 680 you still have options through specialty lenders, usually with a larger down payment and a higher rate. A bigger down payment, strong cash reserves, and low monthly debt can all help offset a middling score, and pre-qualifying through us is a soft inquiry, so checking where you stand costs your score nothing.

How much do I need to put down on a boat?

Plan on 10 to 20 percent down for most boat loans, with 15 to 20 percent typically unlocking the best pricing. A larger down payment lowers the lender's risk, which can improve both your rate and your approval odds, and it keeps you from being upside down as the boat depreciates. Zero-down programs exist but are rare and usually reserved for exceptionally strong borrowers.

How long can I finance a boat for?

Terms through our network run 5 to 20 years, with 10 to 20 years the most common range. Larger loans on newer boats qualify for the longest terms, while older vessels and smaller balances may cap shorter. A longer term lowers the monthly payment but increases total interest, so compare both before choosing. Most marine loans have no prepayment penalty, which lets you take a 20-year payment and pay it down faster whenever you like.

Does checking my rate affect my credit score?

No. Getting an estimate and pre-qualifying through us is a soft inquiry, which leaves your credit score untouched. A hard credit check happens only at the full application stage, with your permission, once you've chosen to move forward with a lender. That also means there's no penalty for pre-qualifying early, before you've even picked the boat.

Can I finance a used or older boat?

Yes, most boat loans are written on pre-owned vessels. Late-model used boats finance much like new ones, with full terms available. As boats push past 15 to 20 years old, terms shorten and some lenders step aside in favor of specialty programs, so expect a slightly higher rate and a larger down payment on an older hull. On most used purchases the lender will also require a marine survey to confirm the boat's condition and value.

How fast can I get approved?

Pre-qualification takes about two minutes, and most approvals through our network come back within one business day. From there, timing depends mostly on the boat: new-boat closings can wrap quickly, while used boats add a survey and sea trial to the schedule. Having your documents ready, ID, two years of tax returns, and bank statements, is the single best way to keep things moving.

Is boat loan interest tax deductible?

It can be. If the boat has a sleeping berth, a galley, and a head, it may qualify as a second home under IRS rules, which can make the loan interest deductible for some owners. Eligibility depends on your situation and how the boat is used, so confirm the details with your tax professional before counting on it.

Can I pay off my boat loan early?

Usually, yes. Most marine loans carry no prepayment penalty, so you can make extra payments or pay the balance off entirely and save the remaining interest. A small number of programs do embed early-payoff fees, so have your specialist confirm the prepayment terms before you sign.

Will I need insurance on a financed boat?

Yes. Lenders require insurance for as long as the loan is open, typically an agreed-value policy with hull coverage at or above the loan amount. Budget roughly 1 to 1.5 percent of the boat's value per year, and line up a quote before closing so coverage can bind the day you take ownership.

Is the calculator's number my actual rate?

It's an estimate to help you plan, not an offer. Your real rate and terms depend on your credit, the vessel's age and type, the loan amount, and which lender wins your deal. Published starting rates, including our 6.9 percent, describe the strongest borrower profiles. Pre-qualify to see live numbers for your situation.

Who actually lends the money?

Nautical Network isn't a lender. We take one application to a nationwide network of vetted marine lenders, they compete for your loan, and a dedicated boat loan specialist helps you compare offers and carries the deal through closing. You get the reach of many banks with the effort of one conversation.
