Guide to Marinas on the Texas Lakes: Conroe, Travis, LBJ, and Beyond

All stories

Waypoint's first inland coverage: nine verified marinas across Conroe, Travis, LBJ, Canyon, Lewisville, Possum Kingdom, and Cedar Creek, from covered slips to valet dry storage.

Texas boating does not stop at the coast. The state's big reservoirs carry an enormous inland fleet, from the piney shores of Lake Conroe north of Houston to the limestone canyons of Lake Travis, the constant level waters of Lake LBJ, the clear green depths of Canyon Lake, and the weekend armadas of the Dallas and Fort Worth lakes. The boats skew toward wake boats, pontoons, and runabouts, the season runs long and hot, and the marina culture is its own thing: covered slips to beat the sun, valet dry storage that launches the boat before you arrive, and ship stores that sell more ice than anywhere on the coast. On lakes where summer water levels can swing, the marinas that have operated for decades have seen it all before, and that experience is worth as much as the amenities.

Waypoint's first inland coverage starts here, on the Texas lakes, part of 54 verified marine pros across the state, each listing checked against the business's own website. Here are nine marinas, grouped by lake.

The marinas

Pier 105 Marina, Lake Conroe. A Montgomery marina serving boaters for more than 40 years, with dockage, wet storage, valet boat service, boat sales, parts, and factory authorized Suzuki, Mercury, and Yamaha repair under the same roof.

The Palms Marina, Lake Conroe. In Willis on the lake's north end, with covered wet slips up to 60 feet, enclosed dry stalls, valet launch and haul-out, a fuel dock with diesel and three grades of gas, sewer pump-out, gated security, and a ship store.

Marshall Ford Marina, Lake Travis. Tucked in a cove one mile east of Mansfield Dam, with covered slips, sailboat slips from 25 to 35 feet, dry stack storage to 28 feet, an on-water fuel dock, and on-site mechanical service, detailing, upholstery, and fiberglass repair, a rare combination on Travis.

Lakeway Marina, Lake Travis. Operating since the 1960s, with boat slips, service, a boat brokerage, 93 octane non-ethanol fuel, and a large rental fleet of party barges, tritoons, and jet skis with online booking.

Horseshoe Bay Resort Marina, Lake LBJ. The resort marina on constant level Lake LBJ, with a Nautique wake boat charter fleet, luxury pontoon charters, Sea-Doo and paddle rentals, wake and ski lessons, guided fishing, yacht party cruises, a ship store, and a fuel dock.

Canyon Lake Marina, Canyon Lake. On Marina Road with slip rentals, boat rentals, boat club memberships, a ship store, a boat brokerage, fuel and pump-out, and the lake's marine service center for jobs like winterization requests.

Eagle Point Marina, Lake Lewisville. About 30 minutes north of Dallas, a full service marina with roughly 700 slips from 25 to 60 feet, dry storage, trailer parking, a boat ramp, rentals, a boat club, a ship store, a fuel dock, and a marine service center.

Bluff Creek Marina, Possum Kingdom Lake. The destination marina below Hell's Gate, with covered wet slips, indoor dry storage for boats to 60 feet, a service and parts department handling winterization and summerization, boat sales, and tritoon and personal watercraft rentals.

Lone Star Marina, Cedar Creek Lake. In Tool, southeast of Dallas, with slips, dry storage with valet launch, dockside fueling, boat detailing, boat sales, fishing guide services, cabin rentals, and a ship store with a restaurant attached.
