Marinas and Boatyards of Charleston and the Carolina Coast: A Boater's Guide
Nine verified marinas and working boatyards from Savannah to Oriental, covering slips, dry storage, refits, and engine work along the Lowcountry and Carolina ICW.
The run of Intracoastal Waterway from Savannah to the Neuse River might be the prettiest commute in American boating. Marsh grass to the horizon, shrimp boats working the creeks, Charleston Harbor opening up past Fort Sumter, then the Cape Fear River, the Crystal Coast, and the wide, quiet waters of the Pamlico. Twice a year the snowbird fleet migrates through on its way between the Chesapeake and Florida, and year round the locals fish, sail, and cruise some of the most protected water on the East Coast. All of that traffic needs slips, haul-outs, and good mechanics, and this stretch of coast has quietly built some of the most capable working yards in the country, the kind of places cruisers plan whole itineraries around.
Waypoint lists 25 verified marine pros in South Carolina, 22 in North Carolina, and 11 in Georgia, each checked against the business's own website. Here are nine stops, running south to north.
The marinas and yards
Thunderbolt Marine, Thunderbolt, GA. A 25 acre yacht refit, repair, and paint facility on the Wilmington River just south of Savannah, serving yachts of all sizes since 1965, with enclosed service bays, in-house trades and systems work, and paint in Awlgrip, Interlux, and Seahawk.

Jarrett Bay Boatworks, Beaufort, NC. The service yard at ICW mile 198, handling repairs, refits, haul-outs, and marine parts for sportfish and cruising vessels up to 300 tons, which puts it on the itinerary of serious boats moving up and down the coast.

Every listing above was checked against the business's own website, and a Verified badge means the owner claimed and confirmed the profile. Browse the full region on the Carolinas storage and marina page, or the Carolinas mechanical page if the engine is the reason you are stopping, and save your route's candidates to My Plan so the shortlist travels with you. When you need a slip or a lift date on a migration schedule, post it to In Search Of and let matching pros along the waterway come to you.
