Koshi 51 Walkthrough: 2,000 Horsepower on a Full Carbon Fiber Hull
Aboard the Koshi 51, the full carbon fiber center console that Koshi Marine says weighs 2,100 kilos bare and tops 100 mph with four 500 horsepower engines.
Carbon fiber gets sprinkled on boats the way truffle gets sprinkled on fries: a hardtop here, a console there, mostly for the word itself. The Koshi 51 is the other thing entirely. Koshi Marine builds the whole boat in carbon fiber using a process it has patented, and the result is a 51 foot center console that weighs about as much as a large SUV before the engines go on. We walked the entire boat with the cameras, and the weight story changes everything else about it.
What 2,100 kilos buys you
Koshi lists the 51 at 16.26 meters with a 3.4 meter beam and a light ship weight of 2,100 kilograms without engines. Read that again. Boats this size routinely weigh five to ten times more. Hang the recommended four 500 horsepower outboards on the transom, 2,000 horsepower in total, and Koshi claims a top speed of 100 mph with cruise around 62. The builder also offers a twin 600 V-12 setup for owners who want fewer engines and calmer numbers. A 1,550 liter fuel tank gives it legs, and Koshi quotes a range up to 435 miles, with the brochure line that it can run Miami to Bimini in under an hour. Those are the builder's claims, and the walkthrough shows the boat making its case in person.
Not stripped, which is the surprise
Pure performance hulls usually feel like race equipment. The 51 does not. It is laid out as a center console for up to 14 people, with lounging space, finished surfaces, and two berths tucked into the console for the overnight nobody plans. The carbon weave is left visible in places, and honestly it should be. When the structure is the story, you let people see the structure. The walkthrough spends time on those details because the finish quality is the part that photographs least and matters most when you are standing on the boat.
Who buys the lightest boat in the harbor
Performance obsessives first, obviously. But the weight math also appeals to anyone who thinks hard about fuel burn at speed, because moving less mass is the one efficiency trick that never stops paying. Either way, it is one of the most distinctive boats we have ever filmed.
