DIY boatyards
30 boatyards that state owners may do their own work, each checked against the marina's own website. Verified businesses rank first.
Yards that let you work on your own boat are getting rarer. Insurance and environmental rules have pushed many facilities to in-house labor only, which is why boaters who do their own bottom paint, thru-hulls, and brightwork end up trading yard names like fishing spots. Every yard on this page states on its own website that owner work is allowed, whether they phrase it as DIY friendly, self-service, or owner work permitted. Where the yard publishes its travel lift capacity, we show it under the card.
DIY still comes with house rules, and they vary widely: some yards allow any work including bottom jobs, some require their environmental controls for sanding and spraying, some welcome your own outside contractor and others do not, and lay-day rates usually climb the longer the project runs. Ask for the yard's work rules and contractor policy in writing before you haul, and be realistic about the schedule; the classic DIY trap is a two-week job blocking a jack stand spot into its third month.
