Guide to Marinas on the Florida Panhandle and Emerald Coast

All stories

Seven verified marinas from Pensacola to Port St. Joe, with hurricane haul-out yards, big dry stacks, and fuel docks along Florida's Emerald Coast.

The Panhandle is Florida boating with the volume turned up and the water turned emerald. Sugar white sand lines the passes at Pensacola, Destin, and Panama City, the charter fleets run some of the busiest docks in the state, and Destin has long called itself the world's luckiest fishing village. Behind the beaches, Choctawhatchee Bay, St. Andrew Bay, and St. Joseph Bay offer protected water for sailors, scallopers, and pontoon crews alike, all stitched together by the Intracoastal Waterway. It is also serious hurricane country, which is why so many of this coast's marinas are built around dry stack barns and haul-out yards as much as wet slips: where you keep the boat in September matters as much here as where you run it in June. Add the steady stream of Loop boats and snowbirds working the ICW through here each fall, and good dockage on this coast rewards a little planning.

Waypoint lists nearly 700 verified marine pros across Florida, each listing checked against the business's own website. Here are seven marinas from the storage side of the directory, running west to east along the coast, from Pensacola Bay to the shores of St. Joseph Bay.

The marinas

Pensacola Marine Center, Pensacola. The Bayou Chico marina and boatyard with wet slips for boats up to 164 feet, a 550 boat dry storage barn, a 110 ton Travelift, a fuel dock, DIY yard space, an on-site vendor network, three phase shore power, around the clock video surveillance, and a hurricane haul-out yard that earns its keep on this coast.

Pelicans Perch Marina & Boatyard, Pensacola. A marina and boatyard on the Pensacola waterfront; details and contact are on the Waypoint profile, which links to the yard's own site.

Bluewater Bay Marina Complex, Niceville. On the north side of Choctawhatchee Bay, with wet slips, transient dockage, indoor high and dry storage, a fuel dock, a ship store, marina charters, boat sales, and the LJ Schooners dockside restaurant, with VHF channel 16 monitored for arriving boats.

Legendary Marina, Destin. A Suntex operated marina with transient slips and online slip reservations, a boat club, rentals, waterfront dining, and a Certified Clean Marina designation, described as the largest single building dry stack in the nation.

Pirate's Cove Marina, Panama City Beach. A full service dry storage marina on Grand Lagoon serving boaters since 1986, with 885 racks including a 450 rack Mega-Barn, forklift launch service, racks for center consoles up to 46 feet, pontoon and tritoon lifts, personal watercraft storage, and seven day operation.

Lighthouse Marina, Panama City Beach. On the north shore of Grand Lagoon and operating since 1979, a dry storage marina with a lay-along fuel dock, a boat launch, storage for fishing vessels, dockside dining, and seven day operation.

Point South Marina Port St. Joe, Port St. Joe. The St. Joe Company's marina on St. Joseph Bay, with 252 dry storage slips, 48 in-water slips, transient dockage, a fuel dock pumping gas and diesel, and an outfitter store, in one of the quietest and prettiest corners of the coast.

Every listing above was checked against the marina's own website, and the Verified badge means the owner claimed and confirmed the profile.
