Boat Services in Jacksonville and Northeast Florida
From the St. Johns River to the St. Augustine Inlet, Northeast Florida boating has real tides, dark water and a quietly deep service bench. Here is who does what, and when to book it.
Northeast Florida is the state's sleeper boating region. The St. Johns River gives Jacksonville a huge, protected inland waterway that most coastal towns would kill for, the Intracoastal runs behind the beaches from Amelia Island to St. Augustine, and the inlets at Mayport and St. Augustine put you on the ocean in minutes. It is Florida boating with a twist: real tidal current, dark brackish water, and an actual cool season.
What ownership looks like here
The fleet is a mix: river cruisers and pontoons up the St. Johns, bay and offshore boats at the beaches, and a steady stream of ICW snowbirds passing through every fall and spring. The brackish river is gentler on bottoms than the tropical salt further south, but the strong tides around Mayport work mooring gear and bottom paint hard, and summer water is plenty warm to grow a beard on an idle hull. Winters are cool enough to slow the fleet down without demanding true northern winterization; most owners run year round, just less in January.
The services that matter most
Underwater maintenance leads, even here. Under Hull Solutions is a firefighter owned Jacksonville dive company doing scheduled hull cleaning with photo documentation of every dive, anode checks, and inspections from Fernandina Beach and Amelia Island down to St. Augustine. The documentation habit matters: in dark water you cannot eyeball your own bottom, so a diver who shows you pictures is worth keeping. Engine work is well covered on both ends of the region. In Jacksonville, Advance Marine provides certified Yamaha, Suzuki and Tohatsu outboard service plus marine electrical work and emergency repairs. For the big jobs, St. Augustine Marine Center is the regional yard: a full service facility on 23 acres on Riberia Street, established in 1992, with a 100 ton travel lift, a 30 ton catamaran crawler, and trades from bottom paint to joinery under one roof. The broader bench of mechanics and boatyards across Northeast Florida fills in everything between a spark plug and a repower.
Dockage is its own story in St. Augustine, where the transient traffic is constant. Camachee Cove Yacht Harbor sits in a protected basin off the Intracoastal near the St. Augustine Inlet with more than 200 wet slips, a fuel dock, and on site businesses.
When to book what
October and November are migration months. The ICW snowbird fleet is streaming south through the region right now, filling transient docks and service calendars in St. Augustine especially. If your boat shares a yard or a tech with that traffic, book your fall service immediately.
Hurricane season runs through the end of November, and while Northeast Florida dodges more storms than South Florida, the St. Johns is famously prone to flooding when one does arrive. Keep your plan current: haul out option, lines, and a decision point on the calendar.
Winter is the gift season here. Cool weather slows fouling, so you can stretch your diver's cadence, and the yards have room for the projects that are impossible to book in spring: bottom paint, fiberglass, electronics refits. Owners who haul in January splash in March ahead of the rush.
If you cannot find the right trade on the river or the coast, post the job to In Search Of on Waypoint, where every listing is checked against the business's own website.
