Sanlorenzo SX88 — Italian Craftsmanship at Its Finest

The Sanlorenzo SX88

Sanlorenzo SX88

In our previous article, we listed our top 5 yachts that have graced our film and TV screens.

Today, we’re staying on that James Bond wavelength as we invite you aboard the Sanlorenzo SX88 named No Time To Die.

James Bond and luxury vessels go together like martinis and spy gadgets. It’s no wonder many yacht owners name their vessels after the films. Perhaps the most notable collection is John Staluppi’s, the American car tycoon who built a fleet of seven (!) superyachts, each a tribute to the world’s most famous secret agent.

While No Time To Die isn’t part of Staluppi’s collection, it’s every bit as spectacular.

Join us at Nautical Network as we take you on an exclusive tour of this extraordinary yacht. We’ll explore its design, delve into its story, and offer a taste of the luxurious lifestyle it provides—complete with a video walkthrough at the end.

Exterior

In a harbor full of yachts, some just fade into the scenery while others do the opposite. The Sanlorenzo SX88 is the kind that demands your attention and holds it. Even from a distance, the SX88’s presence is hard to ignore.

When Sanlorenzo launched the SX88, it wasn’t just another luxury yacht hitting the market, it was a bold reimagining of what a crossover yacht could be. At 88.5 feet, this vessel defied expectations, standing apart with its innovative, loft-like design—unlike anything the renowned Italian shipyard had ever built.

The exterior is a masterclass in design. The muscular superstructure, the sleek reverse windscreen, and the flowing lines all work together to create an elegant and commanding profile. With its near-vertical stance and hard chine, the bow gives the SX88 a bold, explorer-like edge.

Moving aft, the yacht continues to impress. Mauro Micheli of Officina Italiana Design ensured that every inch of the SX88 is beautiful and equally functional. The open teak-clad transom isn’t just for storing tenders and water toys—it doubles as a 1,060 square-foot beach club with a hydraulic swim platform, perfect for sunbathing or diving into the water for some adventure.

The SX88 was crafted with a clear purpose: to bring people closer to the water. Whether you’re enjoying a lunch at the bow’s plush seating arrangement or combining intimate dinners with stargazing at the stern, this vessel is built to immerse you in the experience of being at sea.

Interior

“I never understood why people who use boats accept something so vulgar. I wanted the interior like a loft. In architectural terms, a loft is a beautiful space, without frames and corridors.”Piero Lissoni, interior designer of No Time To Die.

Sanlorenzo granted Lissoni near-total creative freedom, and he used it to redefine yacht interiors. He stripped away traditional elements on the main deck, including the helm station, to create a light-filled, open space. Floor-to-ceiling windows flood the area with natural light, enhancing the feeling of spaciousness while maintaining an uninterrupted connection to the sea.

The main deck features a well-appointed galley at the bow, social seating arrangements, and entertainment systems—everything you need for extended stays at sea. The furniture, from sofas to tables, is all freestanding, allowing for flexibility in arrangement. Even the staircase to the flybridge is a cantilevered masterpiece, floating within the space without disrupting its flow.

Below deck, No Time To Die offers four luxurious staterooms that can accommodate up to eight guests. The VIP Stateroom at the forepeak boasts a king-size bed and an en suite. The Guest Staterooms include one with twin beds and another with twins that convert to a double. The Master Stateroom, located amidships, spans the full beam of the yacht and includes a walk-in closet, seating area, desk, and entertainment system.

Before its sale, No Time To Die underwent a significant interior upgrade, including custom furniture from Minotti and new ceilings and floors designed by Listone Giordano. The finishing touches, including burnished brass frames and chrome fixtures, added yet another layer of quality and style.

‘No Time To Die’ was recently sold and renamed ‘Mave,’ last known asking price was $4,995,000.

Performance & Specifications

“We wanted to craft a boat made for the passionate, the people who really enjoy going to the sea and being close to the water. But we also wanted the boat to be a fast displacement yacht that could reach 20 to 21 knots,” — Sanlorenzo’s CEO Massimo Perotti.

The construction of the Sanlorenzo SX88 is a story filled with challenges. The project marked new territory for Sanlorenzo, pushing the shipyard to its limits. Yet, the result is nothing short of an engineering marvel, largely thanks to Luca Santella—the Olympic sailor who transitioned into yacht building.

After seeing his company, Bluegame, fall victim to the financial crisis in 2013, Santella sensed a market for a large yacht with an open, flexible layout and easy access to the water. This concept consumed him for a year, and by 2014, he was ready to pitch it to Sanlorenzo’s Massimo Perotti.

“I may have closed my business, but my mind remained open,” Santella recalls.

The concept was met with skepticism, and progress was slow. However, a market survey revealed strong interest, and the project gained momentum. Even before the first SX88 was completed, 11 units had been sold—a significant achievement given the yacht’s €5 million price tag.

The Sanlorenzo SX88 is propelled by three 800 hp Volvo Penta IPS1050 diesel engines positioned under the aft deck and platform to minimize noise in the living areas. This strategic positioning provides guests with the ultimate luxury, silence.

The SX88 has a range of approximately 1,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 10 knots, thanks to her 2,456-gallon fuel tanks. At this speed, she consumes 18.6 gallons per hour. Push her to 18.6 knots, and while fuel consumption rises to 87.2 gallons per hour, she still offers a respectable range of around 400 nautical miles—numbers that are particularly impressive for a yacht weighing 158,700 pounds with a fiberglass hull and carbon-fiber superstructure.
