BTS & Walkthrough of the Mangusta 104 REV ‘’Offline’’ by Overmarine Group

August 27, 2024

Mangusta 104 REV

Built and launched in 2021 by the world-renowned Italian builder Overmarine Group, the Mangusta 104 REV M/Y ‘Offline’ turned heads and earned a coveted Neptune trophy at the World Superyacht Awards in 2022.

The 104 REV model blends classic Mangusta lines with a fresh, contemporary twist, a collaboration between Lobanov Design and Overmarine’s in-house engineering team. This perfect marriage of tradition and innovation impressed the jury in the ‘Semi-Displacement or Planning Motor Yachts’ category, securing its place as a winner.

In this article, we invite you to join us for an exclusive walkthrough of ‘Offline,’ paired with a behind-the-scenes look at our content shoot for Kitson Yacht Sales—a rare glimpse into both the artistry of yacht design and the process of capturing its essence on film.

Mangusta 104 REV

At Kitson Yacht Sales’ request, we had the privilege of stepping aboard the very first completed Mangusta 104 REV unit. As we explored this remarkable yacht, we were immediately struck by its features, each exuding elegance that commands attention and refuses to let go.

After his work on the 110-meter Oceanco-built yacht Jubilee, the largest yacht ever built in the Netherlands at the time, designer Igor Lobanov was approached by Mangusta to bring the 104 REV to life. Lobanov’s background in automotive design—an influence that remains deeply ingrained in his creative process—significantly shaped this project.

‘’As a car designer, I see Mangusta lines as having something quite automotive about them, a bit like a Jaguar with a long bonnet and a nice shape, leaping like an animal,’’ Lobanov reflects.

Exterior

Lobanov’s design for the Mangusta 104 REV masterfully balances the shipyard’s iconic DNA by maintaining key elements like the elongated foredeck that tapers into a shorter, curvier aft with fresh and contemporary lines. His creative process involved a detailed study of Porsche 911s, tracing how their lines evolved from the 1960s to the present. This analysis revealed that the car’s core shape remained constant while surface details changed—an insight Lobanov applied to the Mangusta.

Armed with initial sketches, Lobanov and his team crafted renderings swiftly approved by the Italian shipyard in Viareggio, paving the way for construction to begin.

The exterior of the 104 REV is a striking testament to Mangusta’s design ethos, featuring a long, sleek foredeck and a low-slung superstructure with sharply raked glass. This harmonious flow maximizes the yacht’s lifestyle concept, offering generous outdoor spaces where owners and guests can revel in the scenery—whether lounging on the U-shaped aft bench, sunbathing on the bow, or taking in the panoramic views from the sundeck, all in unparalleled style.

Interior

The exterior of the Mangusta 104 REV isn’t the only element that impressed the World Superyacht Awards jury—the interior, crafted by Igor Lobanov’s wife, Yulia, played an equally pivotal role. Yulia Lobanov, an artist, designer, and architect, brought a sophisticated and inviting aesthetic to the yacht’s interiors.

The expansive glass doors in the aft cockpit blur the line between indoor and outdoor spaces and flood the main deck saloon with natural light, enhancing the bright, modern décor. This seamless connection to the outdoors is ideal for warm, sun-drenched locales. Inside, a curated mix of Italian and Danish furnishings, including a Minotti couch, a marble dining table by Opera Contemporary, and a chaise lounge from Ferm Living, offers comfort and style.

One of the standout features of MY Offline’s interior is the two large windows in the main salon. Thanks to electronic tint technology, these windows transition from clear to shaded at the touch of a button, allowing guests to swap privacy for outside scenery.

Descending to the lower deck, you’ll find four guest cabins that echo the elegant theme of the main deck, with a palette of dark grays, rust tones, and accents of orange and black. These spaces are enhanced by sculpted stone, polished wood, and circular motifs in the lighting fixtures and mirrors. The full-beam owner’s cabin amidships boast luxurious materials like shagreen, adding a plush texture to the headboard wall. The forward VIP cabin, also full-beam, offers spacious luxury, while additional guest cabins include a double and a twin with a Pullman berth.

Behind The Scenes

Nautical Network x Kitson Yacht Sales

Kitson Yacht Sales approached us with a straightforward yet intriguing challenge: to create classy and distinctive listing content for MY Offline. The yacht’s dual purpose—both for sale and charter—offered us a unique opportunity to incorporate lifestyle elements, utilizing the crew and water toys against the backdrop of a prime charter location just outside of Miami.

As the sun rose over Miami, our team, representatives from Kitson Yacht Sales, and the vessel’s crew ventured to Fowey Rocks, the site of our content shoot. Given that this project didn’t go under our full lifestyle package, we did not craft a detailed storyboard. Instead, we drew inspiration from previous hybrid listing/lifestyle projects on larger yachts, which guided our vision for staging the shoot and selecting locations within the Miami area that could evoke the essence of the Bahamas—a fitting choice for a yacht like the Mangusta 104 REV.

Fowey Rocks Lighthouse, located a few miles from Key Biscayne, is known for its historic structure and surrounding reefs. However, it wasn’t the lighthouse we were after, we were drawn to the stunning, clear turquoise waters that perfectly complemented the ceramic gray of the Mangusta 104 REV, creating the striking contrast we envisioned.

Our team consisted of Austin Tompkins as director and photo lead, Ryan Cline as video lead A cam, and Dylan Nine as B cam video co-lead. Each member brought a unique perspective from backgrounds in yachting, travel, and hospitality, collaborating to craft a mood that would transport viewers onto the yacht, capturing the essence of life aboard through staged scenes and activities.

The day unfolded as planned, thanks to our thorough pre-production and the accommodating crew. They were more than willing to make stops for drone shots, prepare water toys, and even volunteer to drive the jet skis. The wonderful stewardess on-site also prepared an array of cocktails and an exquisitely presented charcuterie board, adding an essential touch of luxury to the lifestyle scenes.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, we wrapped up our shoot, satisfied with the day’s work. Back at the office, we dove into editing, transforming raw content into polished images and videos delivered to a delighted client just days later.

Director & Photo Lead

‘’From the moment I stepped foot on the Mangusta 104 REV, I immediately felt like it was straight from a James Bond film; it’s a true Bond villain boat. I was most excited about the look and design of the exterior spaces and hull color, but once I stepped inside, my mind shifted. Of the 100 or so boats I have been on, this one had my favorite interior.’’
